Summary

Enhance Your Tactical Weapons! 1001 Winning Chess Sacrifices and Combination is the companion volume to Reinfeld's 1001 Brilliant Ways to Checkmate。 Of course each book can be taken on its own, but together they make a wonderful collection, and cover the full range of tactical chess。 And they are now both available in 21st-century editions, using modern algebraic notation。 Reinfeld has arranged his quiz positions so that they fall into orderly chapters, each with a common theme。 Still, the degree of difficulty varies widely。 Easiest are one move shots, suitable for players starting out。 Most difficult are the examples that run seven moves and more; some of these may even stump an ordinary master。 Most of all, this a book of combinative ideas, all designed to enhance your arsenal of weapons。 The first step toward mastery is to become familiar with the different types of tactical motifs。 The second step is to study a great many examples of these tactical themes。 So, the object of this book is to add to your knowledge, to make you a strong chessplayer, and (last but not least) to delight you with some of the most beautiful moves ever played on the chessboard。

A classic tactics puzzle book。 A lot of interesting positions。 This shouldn't be your first tactics book if you are a beginner。 Many of the puzzles are quite difficult。 A classic tactics puzzle book。 A lot of interesting positions。 This shouldn't be your first tactics book if you are a beginner。 Many of the puzzles are quite difficult。 。。。more

I love it。Any beginner who wants to improve their chess and take it to the next level should go through the book and solve the puzzles in this book thousands of times and defeating you at chess will not be easy for average chess players。Btw I didn't read a physical book or ebook, I read this book on Chessable which is a website which allows you to solve the problems online and we do not have to go through the hassle of setting up the board which saves a lot of time, the time which can be well sp I love it。Any beginner who wants to improve their chess and take it to the next level should go through the book and solve the puzzles in this book thousands of times and defeating you at chess will not be easy for average chess players。Btw I didn't read a physical book or ebook, I read this book on Chessable which is a website which allows you to solve the problems online and we do not have to go through the hassle of setting up the board which saves a lot of time, the time which can be well spent on practice, practice, practice。However, I do like to keep a physical copy with me to browse through it from time to time。 。。。more

This is a major improvement over the old Reinfeld Edition from the late 1950's but it's not bullet proof like problem 104 has a missing White King a quick check of the older book shows it's on f1 so I just penciled it in the book you'll find other mistakes like that in the new checkmate book and find some in the other combinations book and a few typo errors in the solutions。Binding is much improved over the old edition that tended to fall apart no matter how careful one was I went through 2 or 3 This is a major improvement over the old Reinfeld Edition from the late 1950's but it's not bullet proof like problem 104 has a missing White King a quick check of the older book shows it's on f1 so I just penciled it in the book you'll find other mistakes like that in the new checkmate book and find some in the other combinations book and a few typo errors in the solutions。Binding is much improved over the old edition that tended to fall apart no matter how careful one was I went through 2 or 3 copiesAlgerbraic update replaces descriptive notation in the solutions。Solutions were computer checked and mistakes that were in the older edition for decades finally corrected 。。。more

If you know the basic movements of chess and has the aptitude to continue playing, then this is a must have。 Its just a standard guidebook for beginners who must learn the usual tactics of the game。 As you emerge yourself in chess, you'll definitely look for other chess tactics books available, but still this is a good start。 Recommended for chess beginners。 If you know the basic movements of chess and has the aptitude to continue playing, then this is a must have。 Its just a standard guidebook for beginners who must learn the usual tactics of the game。 As you emerge yourself in chess, you'll definitely look for other chess tactics books available, but still this is a good start。 Recommended for chess beginners。 。。。more

Two down, 999 to go!

This book is key for learning to see beyond the obvious。 There are so many opportunities in chess missed or overlooked because of the blind valuation of the pieces, and this really helps you see past materialism to win in apparently even sutuations。

Brian

Great collection of checkmate puzzles。

Essential practice for recognizing the recurring tactical patterns in chess。 15 minutes a day makes a good daily regimen and is virtually guaranteed to improve your play and your rating。 This is the probably best book of combinations I've found。 Essential practice for recognizing the recurring tactical patterns in chess。 15 minutes a day makes a good daily regimen and is virtually guaranteed to improve your play and your rating。 This is the probably best book of combinations I've found。 。。。more
